St. Michael the Archangel High School Announces Addition of Girls Wrestling Program for the 2026–2027 School Year

Lee’s Summit, Missouri — St. Michael the Archangel Catholic High School is proud to announce the addition of a girls wrestling program beginning with the 2026–2027 academic school year, expanding opportunities for female student-athletes while continuing to build on the school’s tradition of excellence in wrestling.

Since its founding, the St. Michael wrestling program has quickly developed into one of the most successful programs in Missouri high school wrestling. The boys program has produced numerous individual state champions, multiple state medalists, and many state qualifiers, while also developing athletes who have continued their careers at the collegiate level.

The program reached another historic milestone during the 2025–2026 season, capturing the Missouri State High School Team Wrestling Championship, a testament to the dedication of its student-athletes, coaching staff, and the strong culture built within the program.

With the continued growth of girls wrestling across Missouri and the nation, St. Michael the Archangel is excited to provide the same competitive opportunity and championship culture to female athletes.

“The success of our boys wrestling program has been built on discipline, development, and a commitment to excellence,” stated President Will Nulton. “We are excited to expand those opportunities by launching a girls wrestling program and building a competitive team that reflects the same values and standards that have defined St. Michael wrestling.”

Participation in girls wrestling continues to grow rapidly across Missouri, with more schools adding programs and opportunities for female athletes each year. St. Michael the Archangel aims to build a competitive girls program that can match the success and tradition established by the boys team, while continuing to develop young women both on and off the mat.

The inaugural girls wrestling team will begin competition during the 2026–2027 winter sports season, with offseason training and program development opportunities planned in advance of the first season.

St. Michael the Archangel High School looks forward to welcoming its first class of female wrestlers and continuing to grow one of Missouri’s premier wrestling programs.
